From September 16 to 18, 2025, Padova Congress hosted the joint Congress of the Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology (SIMP) and the Italian Geological Society (SGI), an event that brought together the national and international scientific community to reflect on the role of geosciences in the future of the planet—and beyond.
The congress focused on the major changes currently underway: a growing world population, increased demand for resources, climate change, and the urgent need to develop resilient and sustainable communities. From natural resource management to technological innovation and space exploration, geosciences are essential for addressing global challenges and opening up new frontiers of knowledge.
A particularly significant moment was the speech by astronaut Luca Parmitano, who shared his first-hand experience in space, emphasizing the link between scientific research, sustainability, and the future of humanity.
The event provided a space for discussion and dialogue between researchers, students, and professionals, with the aim of transforming challenges into opportunities.
Heartfelt thanks go to Professor Davide Novella of the University of Padua, whose commitment enabled the city to host a scientific conference of international importance.
