A successful debut: Resident-X, the first event conceived and organised by paediatric surgery residents at the University of Padua, proved a success when it concluded recently at Padova Congress.

“Organising an event of such scientific significance at a prestigious venue like Padova Congress, with some of the world’s leading names in paediatric surgery as speakers, was immensely rewarding for the residents,” explains Professor Lucrezia Furian of the University of Padua’s Department of Surgery, Oncology and Gastroenterology (DiSCOG). She co-chaired the congress with Professor Umberto Cillo, Director of DiSCOG, and Professor Simone Mocellin, Director of the University of Padua’s School of Specialisation in General Surgery.

Around 350 delegates attended, including students and residents from across Italy.

The awards for the best degree theses also attracted considerable interest, with a total prize fund of €15,000 awarded to 12 winning students from various Italian universities.

“The format worked well, and being involved in every stage of organising the congress was a highly valuable learning experience for our residents. We intend to hold the event again in the coming years,” Furian concludes.
